You can phone for any results anytime during the working day. We do not routinely ring patients with any results unless extremely urgent, so it is your responsibility to obtain your results.
We make this clear when you are having tests taken.
Blood tests, bacteriology tests etc. are dealt with by the doctor as soon as they come back and the result put on the computer for the receptionist to tell you when you contact the surgery. This may involve giving medication and, if so, the prescription will be available at the desk. If you have any queries at all about this ask to speak to the doctor. If necessary the doctor will call you back.
Also note that if we wish to see you to discuss your test results, we will write to you with a pre-booked appointment after one week (in case you have already made your own appointment). If you ring or call in to the surgery and you are told that the doctor wants you to make an appointment, remember you do not have to do anything as we will be sending you an appointment.
Many tests (especially scans or more complex investigations) done at the hospital will NOT come directly back to us. If the requesting doctor was from the hospital then he/she will receive the result and should have made arrangements to inform you directly. If there is any delay, please ring the hospital department concerned directly and not the Surgery.
