If you are suffering with toothache or have any sort of abscess/gum infection, treatment must be sought from a dental practitioner not your local GP surgery.

GP’s are not qualified or indemnified to treat these sort of ailments even if you are not registered with a dentist or if you are having trouble obtaining emergency dental treatment.

The LHB’s Bridgend locality office has received notification from some surgeries that they are having patients seek medical advice and treatment from their doctor instead of a dentist due to an apparent lack of dental provision.

We have been reassured by the LHB that this not the case and anybody having difficulty in accessing dental treatment should contact them for help and advice.

The locality office has provided the surgery with a list of dentists that are still taking on patients in the borough.

For emergency treatment outside surgery hours, registered patients should contact their dental surgery. Your dentist should have arrangements in place for you to receive telephone advice, and treatment if necessary.
Surgeries will have an answer phone message referring you to the arrangements in place. If there is no message please ring Emergency Dental Helpline 0845 46 47.
If you are not registered with a dentist, or are away from home, please ring Emergency Dental Helpline 0845 46 47. Remember – Toothache is not an emergency, unless accompanied by bleeding, swelling or after an accident
